Couple advocates putting children first in split

When many people think about divorce, they assume that the couple that is ending the marriage can’t stand to be in the same room together. While this is of course true in some situations, it is not the rule. A couple, who recently finalized their divorce at the Calgary courthouse, exemplifies this. A selfie they took shortly after their divorce was finalized has gone viral.

In the photo, the couple, who had children, are smiling. In the post on Facebook accompanying the photo they indicated their intentions, despite no longer being together, to put the feelings of their children first. Specifically, they point out it is possible for the love of one’s children to be greater than all of the bad feelings one might have toward their ex. They also request that others in the same situation, choose to take the same approach.

Whether the split involves a divorce or is the end of a common-law relationship, couples who are in situations such as this may be able to work together to reach decisions regarding the children. Even in these situations a family lawyer can be of assistance.

While it is of course ideal for a couple to put their children ahead of their personal issues when their relationship ends, this is not always possible. When a split involving children is not as amicable a lawyer may be of even greater assistance. That individual can help make sure all relevant details are addressed and memorialized in the agreement created.
