Children can make a divorce more difficult or easier, it depends

There are a number of couples separating in Calgary every year, many of whom have children. For some of these couples, their children could become a sticking point or a cause of contention later. This is not to say that many couples are angry with their children or blame their children for the divorce, but that either child custody or child support has become the focus of one or both parent's displeasure. For other couples, however, children can prompt them to seek family mediation and a more amicable end to their relationship.

Surprisingly, there have been a number of celebrities who have set good examples of the latter. While it is not always clear how much of it is an act for the cameras, there are a number of celebrities who have put their children's needs before their own and have maintained an amicable relationship.

Many of these former couples will vacation together or spend holidays together with their children, recognizing that even though they are no longer in romantic relationships with each other, that they are still a family. They understand that they will always be part of each other's lives because they share children, and probably want to reduce conflict in their children's lives.

Of course, there are some couples for whom mediation just is not possible. For whatever reason, they cannot or should not go through mediation. For most parents, however, choosing to go through mediation may make it easier to remain cordial and possibly friends for the sake of their children.
